Peoples Club of Nigeria International (formerly The Peoples Club of
Nigeria). The Club was founded in 1971 at Aba, Nigeria, by Nigerians
who were impelled by the desire to foster good relations amongst
mankind and to sponsor and promote charitable and philanthropic causes.
According
to Uwagboe and Ume (1988, p.3):“If there is anything [that the Founder
of the club], Prince T. I. Ume-Ezeoke cherished soon after the Nigerian
civil war, it was socialization; trying to get the common man meet and
have a place to interact, forget the wounds of the war and the
attendant agony and excessive loss involved on all sides. …[the
Founder] believes that nothing could be a more unifying factor to
Nigerians torn apart by civil strife as Love, Unity, and Service to
all. … [the Founder also strongly believes] in the Biblical saying of
being ‘your brother’s keeper’ through fellowship and brotherhood based
on love and trust”.
